The Apple in the Pear Tree

By , 2 February, 2014, 1 Comment

After Philip Seymour Hoffman’s death today I just started writing this. It wasn’t really on purpose. I just was just messing around and thinking about him. I loved him in that far away way that we have of loving far away people that we feel we know and don’t really.

the apple in the pear tree
this brokenhearted winter
just something you put there
to devastate your neighbors
they never liked your haircut
they never liked your shoes
they never liked the way you walked
they’ll never like the way they lost you
But here a blow in time
Here the soaring rain
Long beloved night
cradle what remains
I hang above the scarecrow
A picture of your garden
It doesn’t scare away the crows
It doesn’t scare away the thought of you
But here a blow in time
Here the soaring rain
Long beloved night
cradle what remains

Sherwin, thank you for this resonance. I can hear the soaring rain.
Goodnight Philip Seymour Hoffman. It does not scare away the crows.
