For the last 18 months or so I’ve been “in development” – creating a radio show for New Hampshire Public Radio that was meant to feature the stories, poems, and music of the people of the Granite State. The working title of the show was/is “The Beaten Path“, and you can click and listen if you like.
But the economy and other obstacles at NHPR have made this dream seem very unlikely to materialize. At least not any time soon.
Thus! I’m looking for a job.
Job History: For the last 2 years I’ve been doing radio work for National Public Radio and New Hampshire Public Radio. My radio pieces have aired on Day to Day, Weekend America, Voice of America, and on various stations throughout the country. I’ve won awards for both my fictional “Sherwin Sleeves” radio pieces as well as my non-fictional work. Last year an hour long documentary profile of me and my alter-ego aired on Chicago Public Radio.
My one man show, Atoms, Motion & the Void received rave reviews (Daily Democrat, Portsmouth Herald) and played to sold out audiences at the Players Ring.
My podcast was named Best Podcast in New Hampshire.
For the last 10 years, thru 2008, I was fully employed, working from home as a copywriter for Schepens Retina Associates in Boston (they closed their doors in 2008).
I’ve also been a stay-home father since 2005 (my son Sam is now 4 and 1/2).
Prior to that I worked as an Executive Assistant for two Partners at Arthur Andersen in Atlanta, Georgia.
Education: I went to Tufts University. Graduated cum laude with a degree in English and Russian Literature.
Strengths: I can write a jingle. I can do voice work. I’m a solid writer – good with both the boilerplate and the abstruse. I’m also very good with ideas, thinking outside the box. I’m very musical in my approach to just about everything. I love enormous projects – musicals, plays, novels. But I’m also very good at dishes and don’t mind simple, menial, hard work (ask the two partners I worked for at Arthur Andersen!).
What I’m looking for: I’d love to be able to utilize my writing skills. If that could be teamed with some musical requirement, I’d be set.
I think there are burgeoning opportunities in Social Media that I could really pioneer for some savvy company.
I could teach high school – english, theater, literature. The arts. Music. (And I did teach Spec. Ed. for one year at Bedford High School in Massachusetts).
I could create a regular podcast for your company. I could be your Social Media liaison and content creator. I could write articles. Do voice work.
I work very well on my own, but I also get along very well with people. I’m all about the finished product. I love to collaborate. I’m a natural communicator, a good teacher and excellent with children young and old.
Do you have a job for me? Of course it isn’t likely that you should. But I thought I’d ask.
And if you do…feel free to write me at sleeves@radioghost.com. And remember, you not only get me…you get Sherwin Sleeves! Two for one special over here!!
Sleeves
Please email me and I will call you or give you my number
I would be interested in paying you to make a sound track to be placed on basketball videos I send to college coaches to recuit some of the kids I coach
Bryce Seymour. I have a twitter account I tried to contact you a while ago
Sleeves. I was hoping you could make me a little jingle for my psycologist. I would be happy if you could take the Dr. steve song and replace him with Dr. Miller(my guy). I realize that does not flow too well, but that’s my doc’s name. I only see him every two weeks and he barely remebers our coversations due to it being through workers compensation. Fucking state BS. I would love to present a session jingle for us so he might remember me more sufficiently. I think Fez should do the same thing. My Dr. Miller creepily resembles John Malkovich. I get 90 minutes with him a month and would love to have a theme song to bring in. HeHe. he has a laptop. He relates anitdepressant meds to a vehicle with power steering and brakes, to where it is easier to drive the car but you have to decide where to drive it to, obviously meaning life. That seems to be his claim to fame for the medication solution. “Depression without medication is like a car without power steering and brakes”. Ugggh. He is a cool guy, but I would love for you to blow his mind with one of your brilliant songs. I am willing to pay for this, or a least buy a few of your albums because I LOVE what you have done with Ron and Fez. Some favs are Comet Mcdonald, Mighty Horse, Rocka Hula Luao, Doctor Steve’s Weird Medicine Theme, Peas Hode!, Bajeebee, And The Battle of Fez & Big A. I hope you can throw somethin together for me, I will support you. Bob.
I don’t have any specific help for you, but have you considered sending demos and such to any advertising agencies in the Manchester or Concord areas? Maybe even Channel 9? I think NH Chronicle would benefit from some Sleeves action.
Times are tough. May you find employment soon. I like the voice.
Consider voiceover work. You’d do wonders with audiobooks and potential commercial endeavors. It pays. Pick up the Altberger book on Amazon and move forward.
You are amazing and inspiring. Best of luck to you!
