“Hurricane Earl Douglas” Song for Ron & Fez

By Sleeves, 6 September, 2010, No Comment

It was as though Earl himself was at the cloudy helm of Hurricane Earl. Take a look at Earl’s book…really nice. I miss him on R&F.

This song was mastered, retracked, re-arranged and juggled about by the super musical, super talented John Presley.

Hurricane Earl Douglas
Has blown out all the stars
Rains ripping at the highway
And the evacuating cars

But he got his maps all backwards
And drifted out too far
He burns above the ocean
And wonders where we are

And through the window of the window of the window of the window
Of the house five houses down
I can see a picture on the mantel of the mountains and a poor man leaving town

And through the window of the window of the window of the window
Of the house five houses down
I wonder if the picture on the man above the mountains is a hurricane or clown

When you wake up torn to pieces
So divided
And you Roll straight down the streets but still in bed
And your dreaming of the day you’ll wake united
All the storm clouds clearing from your head

Wind like anesthesia
Tearing at the ground
And scratching at the ocean
And making every sound

But Hurricane Earl Douglas
Fumbled his attack
Now he’s off hanging paintings
And he’s not coming back

Chorus

“Speedwagon” – An Opie Twitter Evacuation Song

By Sleeves, 2 September, 2010, 1 Comment

I can’t even defend this. But I really got into following Opie’s Hurricane Earl evacuation saga @opieradio on Twitter.

There were a couple posts that kind of grabbed me. The first was this: “Opie’s eye – Dude! You got your coffee, wild horses, hurricane Earl and a Tiki holding his wood…boom!”

Which immediately seemed lyrical to me…and then a post about how a big wave broke his nose and shoulder…and pictures. And then he was making fun of dumb Al Roker…”@alroker Shouldn’t you be studying maps instead of responding to me? Hurricane’s are serious business! U non accurate weather goofball!”

I don’t know. The song isn’t silly and it should be. I guess I was tired.

Lyrics:
Got your coffee
wild horses
hurricane Earl
and my tiki torches

Broke my nose
Broke my shoulder
Hurricane earl
Gonna bowl me over

Now it’s been a while
But I’m starting to feel alright
As the wind raises up the night
Like Al Roker transformed
Now I’m riding the storm
Speedwagon take me home

Traffic jam
Dixie Cup
Monster truck
Means a micro suck

Now it’s been a while
But I’m starting to feel alright
As the wind raises up the night
Like Al Roker transformed
Now I’m riding the storm
Speedwagon take me home

Vacation
All Blown away
Now it’s back to workin

“The Appendix Song” for R&F

By Sleeves, 27 August, 2010, 2 Comments

I wrote “The Concession Song” a few days ago, but after hearing Ron talk about his recent appendectomy experience, I started singing the Concession song with new hospital/appendix related lyrics.

Lyrics:

Well it’s appendix time, oh my goodness appendix time
We’ve got morphine and catheters and crazy things I can’t remember!
But we don’t have doctors, not a single silly doctor
No dentists or biologists, phd’s or Scientologists!
Just anesthesiologists, I’m afraid, knock out artists of the first rank
Well it’s appendix time, oh my goodness appendix time
We’ve got morphine and catheters and crazy things that I can’t remember!
So you’ll need a lot of morphine, on account of all the catheters
It’s a wire rusted round a shoe, the morphine just protecting you
from the Hospital! As the pain we inflict is much worse than the pain that brought here in the first place
If you want to have a visitor, well you need a new partner
If you want go home, find a nurse and fart on her
But if you want a doctor, you need a helicopter
Cause none of us is fully trained, though we’re all experts at killing pain
From the catheters!
Well it’s appendix time, oh my goodness appendix time
We’ve got morphine and catheters and crazy things I can’t remember!

Song for Ron & Fez

I’ve been listening to R&F here and there when I can and doing music here and there and finally those heres and theres came together a little bit.

I’ve also been walking around for the last few weeks with this sort of churchy chorus that goes “now a man ain’t nothing but an old day dream, a barrel a water and a bag of bones” and I was surprised that it fit right into this song. At least it fit to me… :)

It’s not an anti-Fez song, though maybe it seems that way.

Lyrics:
Down the boulevard
Across the avenue
To the alleyway
Where I travel to
In my saddle shoes
A broken Howard Hughes
I’m on the radio, XM 202

Filled with stents and struck by nothing
Blown my day and broke my night I’m
Waiting for the sign to say it’s time to start the
Ron and Fez Show

Now a man ain’t nothing but an old day dream
A barrel a water and a bag of bones
Now a man ain’t nothing but an old day dream
A barrel a water and a bag of bones

Molly’s Cupcakes Song for Ron & Fez

By Sleeves, 4 August, 2010, 2 Comments

It’s hard to believe but Ronnie Two Shoes has invented the best cupcake the world has ever known.

“The Ron Bennington” cupcake is a chocolate and peanut butter man-on the street spectacular and was chosen as the winner of the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars! Congratulation’s to the fine people at Molly’s Cupcakes!

Ron wanted a little song to celebrate so here we go:

Also, if you’re interested in what I’ve been up to lately, I’ve been writing a book called “The Rule Book & Calendar of Kittery Embers” and releasing the audio chapters as they’re ready. These chapters and any songs I do can be automatically gotten via Itunes: Subscribe.

And just for fun, I’ve also been doing a video blog about celebrities that isn’t very factual, or reliable.

Molly’s Cupcakes lyrics:
In the chocolate underground
I found a butterfinger buried
Butterscotch and gnosh
and peanut butter all were married
Molly’s Cupcakes won the cupcake wars
Now you can eat your Ronnie B and listen more!

If you sink into the frosting
of this sinful culinary
delicious buttercup of cake
you’ll be forever merry
Molly’s Cupcakes won the cupcake wars
Eat the winning Ronnie B and listen to his show!

“Lay My Head Down” song with normal voice

By Sleeves, 9 March, 2010, 1 Comment

When I first met Lois I was playing guitar and singing with a kind of high tenor voice. When I started doing songs with piano, I flipped my Leonard Cohen coin and started singing in the gutter range. Lois doesn’t dislike the gutter voice too much, but she often says that she wishes I’d sing like I used to. When she heard the Lay My Head Down song, she mentioned this again and so I thought I’d do a more “normal” version. Here ya go baby!

Lyrics:
I been lying in this manger
Down beneath the Bodhi tree
Like a pilgrim bound for Mecca
But the road is all I see
So I laid down in the starlight
Fell asleep and had a dream
That I’d hunted all the mountains
And I’d captured all the trees
Lay my head down, let my heart take over me
Lay thy head down, let thy heart take over thee

When I met you
For the first time
How strange I couldn’t see
My legs buckled, I’d done searching
And I was down upon one knee
Lay my head down, let my heart take over me
Lay thy head down, let thy heart take over thee

All these earthquakes and disasters
All these wars and enemies
Well, here’s your warning to destruction
Cause your lady’s married thee
So to William and Elizabeth
What holds you tight sets you free

Two Wedding Songs for Ron & Fez

By Sleeves, 4 March, 2010, 6 Comments

Tomorrow on Ron & Fez, it’s the “World’s Fastest Wedding” with Bill & Elizabeth set to tie the knot on air.

Here are two songs to go along with it, neither one fast or even short.

The first song really belongs to the Japanese band “UmiKebu”. They sent me the music a week or so ago and asked me to come up with a lyric and it suddenly seemed to fit in with this wedding deal.

I wasn’t sure if Kevin of UmiKebu could mix my million crazy vocals down in time, so I wrote another song, just in case. But he’s the World’s Fastest Mixer! I wish I could have him mix all my stuff. Anyway…

Song 1: “Lifted” Umikebu Feat. Sleeves

Lyrics: Lets say you lift me
Until the body break down
Until the flesh grows weak
Until the light turns down
And everything I need
As the body breaks down
As you lifted me
To be or not to be

And all these premonitions
This whole land of felons
And every damned and new thief
And every lost and broken bastard
And anyone who’s ever broke down
And anyone who’s needing shelter
And if you’ve fallen by the wayside
And if you’re bleeding in the gutter
Instead of falling by the black sea
Come dance with me

Song 2: “Lay My Head Down”

Little Ron & Fez Rejoiner

By Sleeves, 2 March, 2010, 1 Comment

Perry has some really good “coming back from the break” rejoiner songs. I was working on this tune and it wasn’t going anywhere and then I thought it might work like that.
