Be Oh My! song for Valentine’s Day

By , 13 February, 2013, No Comment

valentineA new song for the big pink and red sugar heart that is Valentine’s Day.

Lyrics:
Be Oh My! Entire!
How she sails on the sea, Never know, I’ll never be, So slow

Long before the sun will rise. I told you that the moon is all we’ll ever see.
And we’re happy for it. Attention Senses! Attention Senses! Attention Senses! Attention Senses!
Happy for the lunar fields. The lunatics will be a great eclipse.
Happy for the way it shines. Like snow if snow you know was blind

The Radio Ghost 42 – The Three B’s

By , 5 December, 2012, 1 Comment

It’s all about the three B’s in this episode. One of the B’s is for Dave Brubeck. One is for “bananas”. The last one might be for “bunnies” or “batteries” but you’ll just have to listen to find out for sure.

With music by the Corries, scientific/psychedelic doomsday prophecy from Terence McKenna, as well as a neighborhood idyll from Sherwin’s younger days. And it all starts out with a live performance of Sherwin’s “Whisper, Pray, Make Room” song…

Song for Fez

By , 1 March, 2012, 1 Comment

Mr. Fez Whatley has finally emerged from one of the world’s great closets…he did so happily and with a spring in his step.

This song is more about life in the closet than out, but that’s what struck me I guess.

Well a fella don’t say it
Go rocking the boat of the regular scene
On the rocky old seas
All them boys in the bowery
Drown in the sea cause they did it that way
You don’t do it that way
But eyes closed, fast and slow
Sweetest daydream that I know
Hand in hand, a boy or man
All good people understand
But a fella can’t say it
He’ll get treated for rabies or mental disease
Some new thought therapy
All the girls in the graveyard
Never wake from their sleep cause they did it that way
You can’t do it that way
But eyes closed, fast and slow
Sweetest daydream that I know
Hand in hand, a boy, a man
All good people understand

“Ask For You” song

By , 6 February, 2012, 1 Comment

“Ask For You” is the fifth song Roy and I have collaborated on. After this one, I think we’re going into double secret stealth mode and will finish out a full album and do a big fancy release that involves hats and crying doves.

“Ask For You” lyrics:
All they ever do is ask for you
all they ever do is ask for you
you were hanging from the wire
put your hand into the fire
lift yourself a little higher
not a lotta good a lot that do etc
and not a lotta good a lot that do
when you’re hanging from a wire
with your hand inside the fire

I thought of something else that we could do
thought of something else that we could do
Instead of hanging from the wire
Instead of looking for a fire

I thought of something else that we could do
I thought of something else that we could do
Instead of hanging from the wire
Instead of looking for a fire

“Bonesetter” song

By , 20 January, 2012, No Comment

Here’s the 3rd song from my collaboration between Roy Harter and Sean Barry of Skinnyman Studios, and it’s easily my favorite so far.

The lyrics were written entirely by Roy.

This song came out of a 20 second demo I sent to Roy and Sean. Roy worked out the lyrics and then he and Sean put the song together and sent it back to me to sing. While they were hard at work, I was laying out in the field under a blanket with a pot of ever-warm tea. The music and lyrics are fantastic and I feel very lucky to be working with such fine young men.

BONESETTER

Half of the day spent wandering the wind
The monks abolish every soldier’s sins.

Bonesetter,
Tie your stone belt around their wings.
Bonesetter,
Bring your plunder back become the King.

All of the salt is crystal on the shore.
The skin of the drums are cracked from all the wars.

Bonesetter,
Tie your stone belt around their wings.
Bonesetter,
Bring your plunder back become the King.

The Percheron leave hoof-marks in the blood.
Their iron-ore left rusted in the mud.

Bonesetter,
Tie your stone belt around their wings.
Bonesetter,
Bring your plunder back become the King.

The Moonshot Man lyrics:
These city boys wrap their arms around every girl that was meant for me
Don’t cross me out, cause I’m working for the higher ups and the powers that be
I’ll show you my hands on the wheel and all the photographs
Of famous people, look right beside them that’s me

Oh now come my sweet, stroll over the moonshot land
I know my sweet, I’m half of a moonshot man
When you fall asleep, hold tight to my moonlit hand

I’ll tie your hair up in the wind
A broken waterfall a stranded manatee
I said I’ll try to set em free
Upon the radio without a single friend
I said I’m trying to be me
So if you stroll with me, across the moonshot night
We can see what we can see.

Oh come now sweet, stroll over the moonshot land
I know my sweet, I’m half of a moonshot man
When you fall asleep, hold tight to my moonlit hand
When you fall asleep, hold tight to my moonshot hand

The Shepherd of Leaves video

By , 15 October, 2011, 3 Comments

Some people think that leaves just fall off trees by themselves and go shooting down the river as though by some magical force. Well no. They are conducted – shepherded – by any number of “leaf herders” as the derogatory phrase has it. In the following video, meant for instruction purposes only, Sherwin shows the practice of Shepherding Leaves in full. From guiding the leaves down the river with a kind word, to sometimes coaxing them with a stick or violent noise. Pen and ink leaf drawing by Christina Sanantonio.

Lyrics:

Though I know, it’s not the same
It starts up every game
So it swings, hard and low
Think I’ll take my things and go

So untied and burden free
Down sidewalks light and sweet
All I know is that it seems
Completely like a dream

Holy, Holy, Holy Daydream

Though I know, it’s not the same
Holy holy holy Daydream
So it swings, hard and low
Holy holy holy Daydream
So untied and burden free
Holy, Holy, Holy Daydream
All I know is that it seems
Completely like a dream

“I am the Ocean” song

By , 31 March, 2011, No Comment

A couple things were lurking in the background with this song. One was Starry Starry Night. Not just the image of it but the creation of it and then what it represents. The other was a quote from Nisargadatta Maharaj: “When I look inside and see that I am nothing, that is wisdom. When I look outside and see that I am everything, that is love…”

I didn’t set out to then write a song about these things, but they were definitely hanging around in old haunted house.

Lyrics:

I am the ocean
I live where I drown
The moon turns me over
The sun burns me down

I am the mountain
I rise like a wing
The wind is my shepherd
The trees are my king
What can I do?
What can I do?

Blessed are the trees
And the birds and bees
And the bark and shell
And the church and bell

Blessed is the breeze
All the whistling leaves
In the wishing well
Hear the whispering yell

I am the river
And I am the ground
I am the silence
And I am the sound

I am the atom
That can’t be destroyed
I am the motion
And I am the void
