Live AMV Performance of “Sarro’s Balloon” this weekend!

By , 12 January, 2010, No Comment

This Saturday (Jan 16th) at 6:30, I’ll do a live reading of “Sarro’s Balloon” together with Red Heart the Ticker, Redwing Blackbird & Sam Amidon.

The bands will play a song with me and then have their own set. These are 3 amazing bands! I feel really honored to be able to do this with them. It’s also a CD release party for Redwing Blackbird’s beautiful new disc “That Bear Skinned A River”.

The mysterious Sumner Knight Chapel is a neat pile of stones and has perfect acoustics – the show will be done without PA’s. No wires or mics.

$8 donation is requested, but this goes toward the rehab of the chapel.

I’ll be selling copies of the “Sarro’s Balloon” CD at the show for $5. But you can also click on the disc above to purchase. Or you can do Paypal here.

Directions below. Hope to see you at this really unique show!

You can also listen to the station and the show via their live stream.

You can also get the stream on your iPhone/iTouch using Internet RadioBOX (simply use the app’s built-in SHOUTcast directory search feature to find “WSPS 90.5″‘s stream).

Blackberry users can input the stream into Moodio or similar using the stream URL: http://war.str3am.com:7590/

Because I’m doing a live performance on Jan 16th of “Sarro’s Balloon” with Red Heart the Ticker, Sam Amidon, and Redwing Blackbird, I thought I’d start with that story.

3 songs & a 3 Minute Story

By , 4 January, 2010, No Comment

I was asked to create a 3 minute “sound drop” that conjured up the city of Chicago for the Third Coast, in honor of their becoming an independent entity.

I’ve been to Chicago a few times (the photo was taken in Millennium Park), but I don’t know it deeply. But I thought I’d pick a well known joint, and then see if there was a rabbit in its hat. I’d heard of The Green Mill jazz club somewhere and it loomed in my imagination like The Cotton Club…and so for my sound drop I thought I’d see if I could figure out a narrative that got Sherwin up onto the Green Mill stage to do a little number. (thanks to Kelly Weime for reminding me!)

Sherlock Sam & the Missing Yaktrax

By , 29 December, 2009, 1 Comment

Every month or so over Waterville Mountain, we see fireworks just above the trees. Why oh why? It’s a mystery! On Sunday night, during our little walk around the neighborhood, we saw them again. We stopped to watch and then decided to head into the dark woods for a better view.

Bushwacking through snow and branches, I lost one of my Yaktrax – which is a crazy little rubber netting that your grandmother might slip over her boot to keep her from slipping on the ice. The next day Sam told me that he thought we could find it. So we went out, Sherlock Holmes style, to retrace our steps in the woods before the big snows came.

We live near a really nice forest. There’s a long path that leads out into various nowheres. And there’s a huge sandpits that we walk to in the summer.

In the winter, it’s for sledding. Sherwin did a quick improv piano song.

I’m wearing the orange vest thing cause it’s hunting season.
